Imagine you are living in the first century in Israel-Palestine under Roman military occupation. You hear one day that there's this itinerant Jewish rabbi from Nazareth going from town to town preaching and teaching in local synagogues and healing people of their diseases and sicknesses. What message does this Jewish rabbi proclaim and teach? What is the main idea of his message? If you had to summarize everything that Jesus said or did in one sentence how would you do it?
The answer to that question tells you a lot about who you think Jesus is and how you perceive what the four gospel writers are trying to communicate about Jesus.
In this teaching, we explore what Matthew (and really all four gospels) have to say about this question.
