After the events of the cross and resurrection, Jesus commissioned his followers to go throughout the world proclaim the good news that Jesus is King and forgiveness of sins is freely available to all who would turn to him in faith.
As the early followers of Jesus went around proclaiming this good news, the began to establish church communities centered around the person and work of Jesus. They gathered each week to remember and celebrate the cross and resurrection of Jesus.
But for a church community that is centered around Jesus, what is the most important trait that Jesus wants? Is it doctrine, is it mission, is it charismatic leadership? What sustains faithfulness and love to Jesus over the long haul?
The church in Ephesus had so many things going for it. It's one critique from Jesus himself is a powerful warning and encouragement for the church today.
